Maries County R 2 CARE Team
Maries Co. R 2 utilizes a CARE team to address concerns of any type that arise at school about a student. This team is a group of professional staff representing a variety of disciplines which include general education, counseling, administration, school health/nursing, and special education. Law enforcement (Maries Co. R 2 Police) and Mental Health providers are also invited when needed based upon the student needs.
This team meets monthly to review student data for students who are at-risk for failing based on academics, behavior, attendance and life stressors. The CARE team links educational interventions with needed support services.
"The district care team is composed of professionals from each school building who work collaboratively to support the well-being and academic success of students," said High School Principal Mr. Haslag. "The goal of the district care team is to provide a holistic approach to student support and ensure that all students have access to the resources and interventions they need to thrive in school."
The team delivers and coordinates student services and supports at the building level. Early interventions are often put in place that can prevent the student from falling further behind. The CARE team monitors attendance, academic performance and behavior and looks at what supports the building can offer to the student and the parents. The goal is early intervention for students needing support, delivering of those support services and then monitoring those students both during the support and after the support.
The CARE team is a part of the district's focus on student wellness and mental health wellness. The counselors in each building are the primary contact for the team. Teachers and parents can make a referral to the counselor when they know a student is struggling in multiple areas. The team looks at the needs for that student and put supports in place as well as make additional referrals to community supports when needed for the student and the family. There is a follow-up discussion at the next meeting to determine if the supports are working or if additional support services need to be recommended.
